A lookback at South Australia Trip 2013 - Part 3

Disclaimer: All that is written is based on my own experience and I'm in no way influenced or sponsored by anyone.

Day 08 -  Hahndorf, Adelaide (13 Dec 2013)

First stop - Beerenberg Family Farm
Address: Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf SA5245

They sell a variety of jams and sauces, and you can pay to pick your own strawberries there which we did. You however have to pay for the strawberries you pick afterwards, and they only allow you to sample 1-2 strawberries in the field. Entry is at $4 per pax if I don't remember wrongly.

The jams and sauces are interesting, since each of the different flavors actually is 'named after' someone in the family. Their products are also sold in the supermarket in Adelaide, but the range in the supermarket is limited.

Second stop - Lunch and shopping around Hahndorf

That was a REAL fireplace btw. It was in one of the cafe we entered.

So what we did was we parked at the start (or end) of the street and started walking down the street on one side and stopping for lunch, then continued back up on the other side.

Lunch was at a German restaurant. Hahndorf was formed by German immigrants (or something like that) thus there are a lot of 'German' restaurants there. I love the wursts!

Third stop - Rundle Mall
Address: 2/7 James Pl, Adelaide SA 5000

Rundle Mall was near our hotel and we actually went back first to unload our stuff before we continued shopping. :)

They have some alleys and some 'malls' like Myers which was on our go-to list. Dinner was settles somewhere here, though I remember it being in the basement most of the food around being Asian, but I can't remember which basement it was. If I don't remember wrongly it was probably the one with David Jones. A map of it is here.

Day 09 - Ashton/Norton Summit, Adelaide, Lobethal (14 Dec 2013)

First stop - Marble Hill Cherries
Address: 25 Marble Hill Rd, Ashton, Norton Summit SA 5136

My brother rated this stop/activity the best throughout the whole trip. You get to pick your cherries and the area is actually "netted" to keep birds out, and at the same time those irritating flies are kept out. It was quite fun, and they let you eat as many cherries you like in the farm, only to pay for those that you take away. Entry is at $5 per pax, and cherries are at $12 per kg.

Second stop - Lunch and Shopping along Kensington Road

Again we parked the car somewhere along the road and walked.

We lunched at Nordburger and I remember I bought the mushroom burger. I love mushrooms. My sister reluctantly tried it and liked it, and she said "only in South Australia I like mushrooms." My dad refuse to try it however, and he said "I would only MAYBE try it if I starve for 3 days, but only maybe." Sigh.

Third stop - Mount Lofty Summit

Went there to see the scenery and took some photos. This stop wasn't really planned but since we had time...

Dinner was bought (again) at a supermarket and we had it in our hotel.

Fourth stop - Lobethal

We wanted to be there to see the Lights of Lobethal which was a December/Christmas thing and also catch the story of the Nativity with real animals at a church there. We arrived before dark and walked around before we catch the Nativity. Apparently it only plays for one day, though there were two shows that day.

Day 10 -  Semaphore, Adelaide (15 Dec 2013)

First stop - National Train Museum
Address: 76 Lipson St, Port Adelaide SA 5015

My sister was like "I'm going to let the train hit me" and posed for the shot. My brother wanted to enter this shot and my sister went "Why you want to disturb someone committing suicide?" Then my dad went "Aye cannot see your face lah"

The only family photo we have throughout the whole trip

We initially wanted to catch a tram that was actually a five minutes drive from where we were, so we decided to stay in the museum instead. You have to pay to get in, and there's a family price. There was a train inside that you can catch and it brings you one round around the compound.

Second stop - Semaphore Jetty
Address: Esplanade, Semaphore SA 5019

That was where the train my dad wanted to catch suppose to 'end'. Apparently it should start at Fort Glanville Conservation Park (address: 359 Military Road, Semaphore SA 5019), but we decided to go to the Jetty where my dad parked near a beach and my family (besides me) went to take photos at the beach. I didn't enter the beach cause I just bought a new flats which I was wearing (the one I wore to SA died) and it was the lace kind and sand could enter in all directions. And none of us brought slippers because we didn't expect to be visiting a beach.

Third stop - Rundle Mall
Address: 2/7 James Pl, Adelaide SA 5000

We can't get enough of this place!

Fourth stop - Elder Park

Elder Park was near our hotel, and there was Carols by Candlelight that day. We didn't stay till the end, because it was getting really late.

Fifth stop - Skycity Casino

We decided to stop here on the way back to the hotel but my brother couldn't enter since he was underage. My dad wanted us to see how a casino looked like and since it was free entrance. My mum exchanged $20 for coins and we tried to play the slot machines and failed terribly since none of us know how to play it. My mum tried to get my sis and  me to play Blackjack or Roulette but we didn't want to, and were tired.

Day 11 -  Adelaide (16 Dec 2013)

First stop - Port Wakefield

My sister and her jump shots with her favourite superman pose.

The scenery is nice! Need I say more?

We lunched at a fish and chip shop, but it was a mistake...

Second stop - Harbour Town

We went there to do some last minute shopping :)

Third stop - Airport

We had to return our rental car, and return home...

South Australia is a nice place and I kinda miss being there. Who doesn't miss holidays anyway...
