Movie Review: Despicable Me 2

So I finally went to watch Despicable Me 2!

My ticket stub! (It has been a long time since I watch a movie at AMK Hub Cathay... The last time was with my JC mates since our school was near AMK.) :)

Compared to despicable me, despicable me 2 focuses more on the minions! And all the minions are individually animated! A lot of hard work on the side of the animator.

And who can forget the girls! Agnes is as cute as ever, and still obsess with unicorns. They gave her a unicorn costume for her birthday party:

The storyline doesn't get any more simple than it already is. Well, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Gru is retires from his evil ways and takes care of the girls while trying to manufacture jams and jellys. He subsequently joins the Anti-Villain League (AVL) and works with his new partner, Lucy Wilde, to find out which shopkeeper in the mall stole some serum called PX41.

AVL tracks the "fingerprint" of the serum down to a mall, and Lucy and Gru works undercover there at a cupcake shop. Eduardo comes to welcome them and Gru thinks that Eduardo is El Macho and is the prime suspect.

Margo falls for Eduardo's son, Antonio over a brief encounter in the mall, and Gru loses it.

El Macho invited Gru and the girls to a party and the girls are excited. So, Gru gets all worked up and demands that the Silas Ramsbottom, head of the AVL, capture Eduardo and his son immediately, even though he has no solid proof.

AVL got the wrong suspect, Floyd Eagle-san, who owns a hair wig shop. (Who before gave Gru a wig to 'try' and he wore it on his 'forced date' with Shannon)

Gru and the girls go to the party that El Macho invited them to. The girls have fun, and Margo gets her heartbroken when Antonio finds another girl. Gru finds the truth about El Macho, and that Dr Nefario is now working for El Macho. Gru also finds out that some of his minions was captured by El Macho and transformed into the purple minion by the serum in a bid for El Macho to take over the world. Although El Macho invited Gru to join him in taking over the world, Gru rejects it (not plainly) and runs away.

In the meantime, Lucy Wilde is transferred to the Australia branch but on flight there she changes her mind and jumps off the plane and glides back to the party to find Gru, only to be captured by El Macho. Dr. Nefario warns Gru that Lucy is captured, and Gru tried to save Lucy. Well, turns out Dr. Nefario has the antidote and treats Gru and the girls as a family, so helps Gru turn all the evil minions back to normal. And in the end, Gru does save Lucy, and well...

Overall, Despicable Me 2 is worth the wait, and is "retarded fun". It'll cheer you up on a gloomy day. :) I dunno why, but I came up with a conclusion that Agnes has an inner-violence in her since she shook Edith very hard twice throughout the movie.

(updated: found a longer spoiler version here)

And I shall end with a Youtube video clip on the girls. Have fun!
